Like peanut butter and jelly, like salt and pepper, like..well…Fred and Ginger, music and movies just go together. From orchestras and spectacular theatre organs accompanying early silent films to the grand and lavish dance numbers in 1940s to modern horror films, music is an essential part of creating mood and driving the emotional impact of a story home. In this spirit, Cantos is in the process of developing the Music and the Movies program. |
| Our free noon-concert series showcases young musicians and established and emerging artists that perform many genres of music. With regular appearances by students from the Mount Royal Conservatory Academy of Music and the Morningside Music Bridge Program, Cantos has also presented internationally touring choirs, folk groups, high school bands, local singer/songwriters and world musicians in this popular series. |

Calgary’s longest-running free concert series offers four summer noon-hour concerts every year at the Jack Singer Concert Hall at Calgary’s EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts. For more than 20 years, Cantos à la Carte concerts have enabled audiences to sample a different flavour of music each week using the beautiful Carthy organ. |

In collaboration with The Calgary Blues Music Association and Friends of the King Eddy, Cantos sings the blues at the monthly Blue Mondays Jam. Held on the last Monday of every month jammers of all ages and levels of ability come together to learn, teach and make music. Our music room stage has great lighting, great acoustics and musicians have access to some of the instruments from our amazing collection. The focus is blues and blue-inspired music. The Workshops: Every second Blue Monday we host a workshop relevant to music and musicians. One workshop might focus on blues techniques with your instrument while the next might be how to manage a band. |

In partnership with the Calgary Association for the Development of Music Education (CADME), Cantos offers this monthly jazz jam hosted by a different high school jazz combo every month. With a focus on improving improvisational skills, the jam is open to jazz players of all ages and levels of ability. |
