In Our Creative Spaces

In 2010, Cantos has launched its Creative Spaces program that provides affordable space to the arts community to help encourage education, collaboration, cooperation, creation and performance of music.

The results so far, have been fantastic with some interesting and eclectic groups holding events here at Cantos including Collective on Sundays with Random Task Collective, Shot at the Dark with Calgary Is Awesome, a Chester Thompson drum workshop with Long and McQuade, a workshop on cultivating your career as a composer with the Canadian League of Composers and many many more.

Canadian League of Composers

On February 6th, The Canadian League of Composers presented a workshop at Cantos, designed to foster professional growth for any composer.

This workshop featured an all star presenters panel, sharing their expertise, discussing how composers can best promote their music, the challenges and opportunities in a changing contemporary music scene, and financial and artistic survival in a trying economic climate and a changing workplace.

Presenters included David Eagle (New Works Calgary), Leonard Ratzlaff (Richard Eaton Singers, University of Alberta Madrigal Singers), Bob McPhee (Calgary Opera), Mélanie Léonard (CPO), and James Rolfe (Continuum), alongside composers Allan Bell, Hope Lee, Paul Steenhuisen, Arlan Schultz and Victor Davies.  Moderated by John Reid and Laurie Radford.

Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions, share their experiences and make connections within the community.
