Christofori Replica Piano
Bartemolo Cristofori invented the piano around 1700 in Italy where he was an instrument builder for the Medici Court. Three known Cristofori pianos still exist and the Cantos instrument is an exact copy the 1726 original which is housed in Leipzig, Germany. The other two original Cristofori’s can be found in Rome and New York.
In 2000, the Cantos Music Foundation commissioned artist Dr. David Sutherland to recreate Cristofori’s 1726 instrument in commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the piano.
