The Cantos Music Collection features more than 700 keyboard instruments and other musical artifacts and is the largest of its kind in the world. Telling a musical story spanning from 200 BC through to the present, the Collection serves as a touch point for learning, engagement, healing and entertainment for people of all ages and interests.

As our mandate grows to tell Canada's national music story, the size and scope of our Collection will too. Stay tuned for exciting developments in our Collection.

What's New

On Leave

After an extensive tour of duty as a rental instrument, played by the likes of Chantal Kreviazuk and Sarah McLaughlan and signed by David Foster, our 1968 Yamaha C7 grand piano is on leave to polish its brass and shine its boots – in other words, receive a new black finish. The piano is expected to return to active duty by April 2010.

Now in Service

After major restorative efforts over the last year, our Hubbard harpsichord, donated by John Searchfield in 2006, is now on exhibit and will be used extensively in school programs.

On a Mission

One of our community outreach instruments, a 1912 Baldwin grand piano donated by Alice Hunt, is on a mission to take music into the workplace and will be exhibited at the new Keynote commercial building across the street from Cantos.

We Got the Beat

A couple of interesting new instruments have made their way out of the electronics shop and into the gallery in the form of the Linn LM-1 and the Kawai SX-210 drum machines. Check out our blog to see and hear them!
