Roman Cooney, Director

Roman Cooney is Senior Vice-President for Alberta Health Services.

Previously, Cooney was Vice-President, External Relations for the University of Calgary.  Cooney oversaw internal and external communications; media; alumni relations; government and community relations and marketing.  He was also the executive sponsor of the Downtown Campus.

Cooney joined the University in 2002 after three years with the Calgary Health Region as Vice-President, Communications, where he was in charge of internal and external communications; government and community relations; physician communications; events; patient representatives and development of the Region’s Contact Centre.

Previous to the Calgary Health Region, Cooney worked for more than 20 years with the Calgary Herald, where he covered federal, provincial and municipal politics and education.  He was also a columnist, senior editorial writer, city editor, news editor and assistant managing editor.

Cooney holds a BA in Political Science and a Masters’ in Communications Studies from the University of Calgary.

He is currently a member of the Board of United Way of Calgary and area, and a member of the Board of Cantos Music Foundation.
