A Heart of Gold

A big act of love, mystery  and public art has wrapped itself around the gates of the King Eddy

“I want to live, I want to give, I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold”–Neil Young

A craft attack? A yarn bomb?  Knit graffiti?  Could the King Eddy be the latest “victim” of the guerilla  knitting movement?    The Eddy’s giant heart, made of golden ribbon painstakingly woven into the gate, is by an unknown artist yet all evidence points to the growing worldwide phenomena of Art bombing.  According to the blog of the Calgary Yarn Bomber,  “ArtBombing is all about making art public …Yarn bombing is knit or crochet graffiti …  The aim of this project is to bring art closer to the public, to bring a little fun and whimsy into people’s lives, and to make them think.”

No matter who made the heart, we feel it echoes our sentiments exactly. We ♥ Music. We ♥ Calgary. We ♥ the King Eddy. We ♥ the National Music Centre.  Thanks craftivist, wherever you are, for sending out big love to this very special place!

For more on the Yarn Bombing movement check out this Globe and Mail article. As the article says, it is one form of graffiti that is hard to hate.

  2. The term “craft attack” made me think of a TV show I used to see as a kid called “Art Attack” The show’s host would make all kinds of guerilla art using found objects and every show he would make something really cool that you could only see from overhead. Ahh memories : )
